Labor Pains

Labor Pains

Deep breathing
At His Eucharistic feet
An untypical labor
The silent groans
Of an aching heart
And empty arms
God fills to overflowing
Through another’s  sacrifice
Doubly blessed
Labor pains
As answered prayers
That rip open
A new family
But these aches
Are not one and done
For they rise and fall
With the seasons
Returning again
And again and again
Remember to breathe - deeply
New fruitfulness
From the womb to the tomb
I’m learning
Hands fill and empty
With an emptiness
That isn’t barren
It gives birth
To His plans
His will
His new life
When I
Open my grip
In trustful surrender
Laboring with Him
He makes all things new.
